Our History & ObjectsThe Society was formed in 1932 and is the oldest family history society in Australia. We have around 4,000 members throughout the world and are incorporated under Australia’s Corporations Law as a non-profit company, limited by guarantee. Our income is tax exempt and donations over $2 to our Collections Fund are tax deductible. Our ABN is 45 029 698 871 Our principal object is the advancement of genealogical education and this is reflected in our education program and collections. The SAG is managed by a small staff under the direction of a Board of Directors and we could not open our doors without a wonderful team of volunteers. The Society of Australian Genealogists acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and emerging Traditional Custodians of the land in which we operate, live, and gather.
