Certificate in Genealogical Research
Learn with us – Certificate course
We’ve been running a Certificate in Genealogical Research course since 2010. Designed to help members improve their research, analysis and writing skills, this course must be successfully completed before you can enrol in our Diploma in Family Historical Studies. The Certificate course is not designed to teach you how to undertake genealogical research; you are expected to already have a good working knowledge of family history and have been researching for a minimum of three years before applying for a place in the Certificate course.
The course runs for 18 months and successful candidates must complete 8 components of work in that time. Entry is only open to financial members of the SAG and it is designed so that members who live outside of the Sydney area can participate. Good internet access is important as all work is distributed and submitted by email.
The current course Regulations (as at 9 December 2015) are available in the link below.Certificate regulations
Applications for 2020 will be open from 1-28 February and are not accepted outside these dates. Potential students should be aware that the course is very popular and we do sometimes receive more applicants than we can accept.
An Information Brochure about the 2020 course is available here.
To apply for a place in the 2020 Certificate in Genealogical Research Certificate course you will need to complete an online application form. As part of this application you will need to answer a short family history research question, so you need to download that document here before you begin the online application. You should allow about 15-20 minutes to complete the application process, which you can begin here Note you must complete this in one session, you cannot save the application and return to it later.
