The English 1662 Act of Conformity did not please everyone. It required churchmen to use all ceremonies and rites from the Book of Common Prayer, and Protestantism was firmly entrenched as the official religion for England. Woe betide those who did not conform by belonging to a non-Anglican church. And there were many, including some very secret ones. Discrimination against non-conformists influenced many of their actions and their ability to function in society. Patrice Connelly will guide you through the maze of non-conformist churches in England, and survey those in Wales, Scotland and Scandinavia.

Presented by: Patrice Connelly

About the Presenter:

Patrice will be a familiar face to many SAG members as a result of her wonderful, and well attended, presentations for our Family History Connect program. We are delighted to have her now movee into also presenting for our webinar program.

Patrice has been a musician all her life, originally playing piano, violin and viola, and then swapping to viola da gamba (an early music instrument which means it's from the Renaissance & Baroque eras). She has degrees from the University of Sydney (music) and Southern Cross University (natural therapies). She began her PhD candidature in Musicology at the University of Queensland in October 2020.  She was also a guest lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium in the early 2000s. In December 1994, Patrice began her business Saraband Music, and in 1996 began publishing editions of early music. To date she has published over 320 editions and books. Patrice also has formal qualifications in librarianship (1979) and TESOL (2016). She worked as a librarian in a number of special, public and school libraries from 1980 to 1994.

Patrice began her genealogy journey in 1999 and has discovered many skeletons in various closets
