George Gresham Reeve was born in 1875 near Beechworth Victoria. He became interested in the Hawkesbury region around 1913 fostered by his interest in his ancestor Surgeon John White who had arrived in New South Wales with the First Fleet. In 1920 he began to collect information on pioneer families of the Hawkesbury  in particular. In 1932, Reeve was one of the four founding members of the Society of Australian Genealogists.

Between 1921 and 1932 Reeve published a number of genealogy related books and papers. On 23 April 1933, Reeve died suddenly in Windsor Hospital and is buried in Ebenezer Cemetery. At the time of his death Reeve's research was left to the Society of Australian Genealogists.

The Reeve collection consists of a number of letters and notes related to his research, newspaper cuttings, a collection of Australian families pedigrees, diary extracts, transcriptions of headstones and a large number of photographs.
