Researching family history in the Channel Islands is a complex task because researchers are potentially dealing with four islands, two languages and several archival repositories.

SAG Fellow and volunteer Robert Nash, who is well known for his expertise on the Huguenots, spent five years delving into the available resources for these islands as part of a research project focussing on Huguenot refugees in the Channel Islands.

Join the SAG community for a webinar in which Robert will share what he learnt about researching family history in the Channel Islands and provide you with some tips to maximise your chances of research success.

About the Presenter:

Robert Nash is descended from a family of Huguenot silk weavers who left the city of Sedan in the Ardennes and settled in Spitalfields, London, in the early 18th century. He was educated at the universities of Cambridge and Oxford and taught English for many years in both England and Australia. His obsession with the Huguenots started in about 1999, and since then he has been researching Australians of Huguenot ancestry in particular, discovering many fascinating individuals in the process. Robert has written numerous articles on the Huguenots, Huguenot-descendants in Australia and Huguenot genealogy for Australians. He also edited (and part-wrote) the book, ‘The Hidden Thread: Huguenot Families in Australia’ which is the definitive work on the subject. Robert was made a Fellow of the Society of Australian Genealogists in 2021.
