You're Nicked! - Part 2
London Lives & London Archives
Part 1 of this series visited the records of The Old Bailey and the convict records of the Digital Panopticon.
In Part 2, Patrice Connelly will take you for a canter through London Lives and The London Archives, with a couple of little detours at the end. This talk will be loosely based on crime and justice, but other topics will be mentioned.
You can be sure you’ll want to explore these records if you have any ancestry around London, and you’re going to just love the London Picture Archive too.
Join Patrice Connelly as she explains each platform, shows you how to search it, gives examples of the types of crimes to be found in this wonderful resource, and explores its importance in research for multiple disciplines.
And for those of you wondering, in the 17th century, “nicking” was thieves’ slang, synonymous with stealing. In time, “nicking’ shifted to being arrested and placed in “the nick” or prison.
