    Hi Jim,

Henry Brown was my mother's patrial grandfather who had a blacksmith's business in Bega.

    A family bible's flyleaf records Henry's birthday as 19 October 1845.

He lists his birthplace on his children's birth certificates as Hessen Darmstadt which is a SW region of Germany.

Family history research by an earlier Brown generation believed Brown was an alias and his name could be Loehr.

It was thought the names of Henry's parents were Lawrence and Margaret based on the names given to his eldest son and daughter

viz Lawrence Frederick and Margaret Catherine.

the Loehrs in Minnesota showed in Ancestry whilst I was searching names in the SAG Library.

I was hoping to find when the Minnesota Loehrs arrived in the US.

    Best Regards

    Ian

Matthew John Loehr was born in Minneapolis on 20 November 1892 there may be a connection to a Henry Brown blacksmith of Bega born in Hessen- Darmsdadt  Germany in October 1845. Researchers in our family suspect Brown is an alias and his real name could be Loehr.

The attached page of the US 1940 Census lists one of Matthew's sons as Lawrence and the US Social Security Death Index 1935 - 2014  lists Lawrencw F Loehr SSN 472-05-3994 died on 13 Jan 1997 with Last residence Minneapolis 55430 Hennepin Minnesota and born on 4 Feb 1921 which agrees with the age recorded in the 1940 census. An intriguing link is that Henry B named is eldest son Lawrence Frederick and that some Brown family researchers believed Henry's real surname was Loehr.

Family folklore has Henry arriving in Sydney in 1866 from America his Naturalisation Certificate names the ship "Albert". A ship of that name arrived on the 5th April 1866 but doesn't list Henry. The only German on the crew list is a Theodore Hammermann and his listed age appears to be 27.

How can I get details of Matthew's parents ?

I may have some information you could be interested in
