As the Society prepares to launch its new USA and Canada Research Interest Group come along to hear US genealogist Mary Kircher Roddy provide some tips on how to get started with US research.

This talk gives a basic rundown of US history and how that affects our ancestors and the type and location of records generated. A survey of different records and what kind of information they contain is presented, with ideas of where to look for more clues. Perfect for beginning genealogists or intermediate and advanced genealogists from outside the US.

About the presenter:

Mary Kircher Roddy, Certified Genealogist, is also a Certified Public Accountant. She lectures in Washington State and across the US, and is a regular presenter for LegacyFamilyTree Webinars. She has written for The National Genealogical Society Quarterly, Internet Genealogy, NGS Magazine, FGS Forum, and Family Chronicle Magazine, and numerous society publications. She was a participant in ProGen 31 and the mentor for ProGen 48. Mary served as Treasurer for the Association of Professional Genealogists. She is currently a trustee of the Board for Certification of Genealogists, and co-editor of the National Genealogical Society Quarterly. She is one of the founders of the Applied Genealogy Institute.
